This is my son Freddie. When he was about 6 years old a tumor started to grow on his face just above his left eye. That was when we learned he had Neurofibromatosis or it is sometimes called von Recklinghausen decease. This decease occurs in 1:4,000 births, is characterized by multiple cafe-au-lait spots and neurofibromas (tumors) on or under the skin. About 50% of people with NF also have learning disabilities. Freddie has handled this very well. He is living on his own and works as a maintenance man at the Grand Old Opery.
